Motivation

Concerning the theme of motivation and looking at theories related, the model more relevant for me is the
ERG theory, developed by C.P. Aldefer, which resume the exigences of people in three different groups: Existence needs, Relatedness needs and finally growth needs. His model condenses Maslow's five groups and at the same way explains that people, passing trought each one of these three levels, try to reach the top because of the needing of increasing their position; unlike Maslow, he also explain that until the next level emerges, the lower level needs do not have to be satisfied, that means one the one hand that in Aldefer's theory the level is considered as a motivating influence and not just as a next step that people have to reach, but on the other hand means that lower level that has been satisfied decrease until any other level emerges.

The main reason that motivated me to come here was exactly the absence of motivation in the university where i was studying last year in Milan; i decide to come here because this degree offers me more opportunity, giving the possibility of improving my english, learning Business rules of an other country and furnishing me all the bases from where "build" my knowledge and also "my" bases. Having the possibility of earning all i need for my course is really motivating me now and makes me really self-assured and sure about my abilities for the future also. Aldefer's theory speak also about blocked level, which give to people the possibility of concentrate on other levels, the same happens to me when i was in italy, because all my two first level were completely satisfied, except for the growth needs because my previous university didn't offer me any help me to satisfy the exigence, so my desire of satisfaction was focused on the growth-needs level which i didn't satisfy until, arriving here, i found enough resources.

During last year, i gave lots of exams receiving as feedback just marks,
which most of the time were not enough to pass them; either if i failed or not exams i didn't receive explication of my mistakes and no one helped my to find solutions, this really demotivated me. Looking at theories discussed in the lecture, i saw that explicating his theory, Maslow define "Esteem needs" those exigences of feedbacks from people's job, so who do not receive recognitions about done jobs become unsatisfied and esteem-level's exigences have to be filled; in fact not receiving feedback from my work i couldn't answer to the needing of esteem. Alderfer could say that i didn't satisfy my growth needs and lower level as existence and relatedness need started to decrease, and also that i really wanted to completely join the next level after satisfied the two before. Relating this episode to Herzberg's theory, immediately appear that the factors that i do not satisfy were the "motivators or growth factors" as lecturer didn't give me the right motivations and didn't furnished enough resources to help me to compete the degree.
In conclusion there are many aspects of motivation which are to be respected if some one wants to give to some one else motivations to do their job, work, or whatever it is, some of the factors that we have to satisfy just depend by ourselves, but other, for example growth needs or feedback needs do depend by other people that means that people need to be linked or to work in group or just to have some one, as doing our job alone
is not enough to be satisfied.
